Noise

It occurs to me that the world has a need for noise, constant chatter, an onslaught of action. I'm wondering if the noise isn't there just to silence the noise in our own heads. Is there so much noise going on we don't have to listen to the other. Do we keep the noise level high because we have nothing to say to each other?

Walk into a public place, a restaurant. Listen to the music in the background. Is it soft or is it quick and fast paced so that you will eat faster so that the table is turned faster, more money is changed. Christmas music is now chiming brightly in the stores. Halloween is barely over, but the retailers want us to think Christmas spending. Sales per minute are much higher when music is played loudly than with soft background music.

We've all bought into this manic noise and fast action adventure. Seeking those adrenaline rushes coursing through our veins. Image changing, constant banter, rushes of light to block out the silence of our thoughts.

Or, am I just getting old?
